An HDMI splitter is a piece of technology that allows a multimedia input signal with visuals and sound to be outputted to almost any number of different devices used for display. It accomplishes this feat by allowing one input signal to be split into at least two different output signals to be displayed on many High Definition Multimedia Interface output devices.
These HDMI splitters as a device support many different kinds of HDMI devices. These include the satellite receiver boxes that often sit on your entertainment center shelves, DVD players, video game consoles, satellite receiver boxes, and computers with High Definition output. The signals that are generated are sent through just a single cable with very little loss of signal. The fact that a single cable is used cuts out the clutter and leaves more space free for other things.
The devices are offered in 2, 4, or 8 port configurations and can be cascaded to accommodate even larger configurations of HDMI devices to be joined in a type of network. They are also available in matrix formats of 2 X 2 and 4X4 which are different combinations of a switch and a splitter to allow for remote access and control through TCP/IP or IR.
It is not too difficult to install one of these machines as it does not require any extra software or devices drivers. Thus all you have to do is plug it in and it plays as they say. The fact that it is compact in size is also considered a plus as it needs very little space in which to rest and can be put on the top of your television if there is room and if it is what you desire to do.
Another reason that this device is so popular is its low power consumption. Thus you can update your home theater set up without using to much more power. A definite advantage when you consider the high cost of utilities nowadays. This allows you the freedom to enjoy your favorite form of entertainment without the worry that your electricity bill is going to wipe out your bank account.
Amplifying and buffering an HDMI input signal in a fashion that allows for the creation of two identical output signals at the same time. Thus these devices are able to transmit uncompressed streams of digital output.
The many applications that this kind of technology has been used for are interesting. For example in business it is being used in digital signage, classrooms, conference rooms, control rooms, shopping malls, information broadcasting, remote monitoring, and training facilities.
The versatility of an HDMI splitter is what has caused its rise in popularity. In fact it has been speculated that this little piece of technology dominates the field in devices of its type in the visual and audio entertainment industry. Thus if you feel a compulsion to update your home entertainment system consider a purchase involving a splitter as an initial step. (Source : Flat HDMI Cables and HDMI Wall Plate)
